Which types of investors are suited to this alternative asset class, asks Colm Walsh, Managing Director, Private Equity Fund Investments, ICG

Larger investors

At the moment private equity is the domain of the very sophisticated institutional investor. Typically, large pension funds, large sovereign wealth funds; so organisations that are unconstrained financially that have the scale and resources to be able to have large private equity programmes.

Smaller investors

We view our mission at ICG Enterprise Trust as changing that – as democratising the asset class by enabling all responsible investors to gain access to the characteristics which have attracted these very sophisticated investors to leading returns in very strong investment growth over a long term time horizon.
