Investing in companies that can grow during uncertain economic times are explored by Colm Walsh, Managing Director, Private Equity Fund Investments, ICG
What is defensive growth?
Defensive growth companies are companies that can grow even in difficult economic environments.
Why is that?
Well, typically there's an underlying trend, which isn't correlated with the economic cycle. So it might be something like software adoption or changes in the demography of the population. And that allows the companies to grow even when the economy is a lot more volatile.
How is this relevant to ICGT?
At ICG Enterprise Trust, we've been very successful at identifying companies that benefit from long term growth trends, which has generated significant performance for our shareholders.
